Drug Free

So, it’s been a while since the last report and a lot has happened in the last two years. I’ll probably forget a few things, but here’s a little catchup.

The doctor put me on a Low Carb Healthy Fat (LCHF) diet with interval fasting modeled after Jason Fung’s “The Diabetes Code”. It’s NOT Keto (I hate that term). A “normal” diet includes 300-350 grams of carbohydrates per day. LCHF targets a drop to 100 or less. That also reduces calorie intake. Calories are still essential, so no/low carb sources are okay. That includes healthy fats found in meats, nuts, etc. and butter. The one thing it definitely excludes is added sugar. Sweet is accomplished with sugar alcohols which aren’t digestible.

My A1c was 11 in January ’20. Blood sugar was 300. Full on Type 2 Diabetic. I was prescribed 2000mg/day Metformin. By June ’20 my fasting blood sugar was under 100 mg/dl more than half the time. As a byproduct, I also lost ~40 pounds. The doctor dropped Metformin to 1000mg/day

The doctor was impressed with my progress. In October ’20 he dropped the Metformin to 500mg/day. The April ’21 visit saw an A1c of 5.0 so the doctor took me off Metformin altogether.
