A Level Bed

Like everything, there is a routine collection of before during and after checks associated with 3D printing. Among the ‘before’ checks is to insure the print bed is level relative to the hotend. Out of the box, bed leveling on the Ender 3 is a manual process. You move the hotend to each of the four corners and adjust them to just under the nozzle, typically using a piece of paper as a feeler gauge.
